The museum and church are closed for touring/visiting due to COVID-19 financial impact on our establishment. We do not yet have a date for a reopening. Updates will be provided on our Mission San Juan Bautista Page on Facebook.

The Mission gift shop and garden are open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays through Sundays. 

The Mission is closed on New Year’s Day, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. We reserve the right to close certain areas of our property at any time due to the religious and historical nature of this church and museum. Thank you for your patience as we work to conserve and protect the architecture for all to enjoy.

Visiting the Mission

The Mission maybe closed at the time of your visit due to state COVID-19 regulations for churches and well as special events. 

Tours into the church and museum, along with field trips are currently not permitted at this time. Please call 831-623-2127 or 831-623-4528 for our current status.

On occasion, a docent may be available to answer questions or guide a tour upon request. 

School Field Trips:

The Mission and the State Historic Park are administered separately and reservations between the two are not automatic.

It is advised that you first call Reserve California at 1.866.240.4655 or visit to make a reservation to tour the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park, Call 831-623-7609 to book your School Field Trip Reservation for Mission San Juan Bautista. 


Shopping at the Gift Shop is allowed at your discretion. CHAPERONES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STUDENTS. (Chaperone Information)

Your admission and purchases made in the Gift Shop are very important to the Mission. We do not receive any financial aid from any state or federal funds. We rely solely on the generosity of our visitors for the upkeep and restoration of this historic treasure.

BEFORE STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO VISIT, it is required that you, or someone you have appointed, report to the gift shop to check in. This is also the appropriate time to pay your admission fee ($50.00 per class for a self-guided tour) if not paid in advance. 

STUDENTS MAY NOT BRING BACKPACKS, drinks, or food beyond the Gift Shop entrance. Teachers and chaperones may carry their educational supplies (no food or drink) as needed.

THE MISSION IS A PLACE OF WORSHIP. There are times when the Church may be closed for services. Please be patient, we will get you started on your tour as soon as possible. The rest of the Mission grounds including the museum are open during services.

THE ADMISSION IS $50.00 PER CLASS for a self-guided tour (On occasion a docent may be available to answer questions or guide a tour upon request.) Payment may be mailed in prior to your visit. We require that only one payment be made for all classes in your school. Checks may be made payable to Old Mission San Juan Bautista. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.

PLEASE NOTE: Purchase orders are not accepted.

Bus parking is located at the corner of 2nd and San Jose Streets in the lot adjacent to the Mission parking lot. The entrance and exit for buses are located on 2nd Street. Please share this information with your bus drivers as it is no longer permitted that buses park on the city streets.
