The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

Congratulations on your engagement! We are sure that you have many questions surrounding the planning and preparation for a wedding celebration here at the Old Mission. The following information will answer most of your questions. If we can assist you further, however, please contact us at 831-623-2127.

People who live within the boundaries of Mission San Juan Bautista Parish and are not registered parishioners, may register, then after a 4 month waiting period, and 6 months prior to the desired wedding date, schedule the wedding, and begin the process (see Scheduling A Wedding For Registered Parishioners) below..


Scheduling A Wedding (For Registered Parishioners):

Before a wedding can be scheduled at Old Mission San Juan Bautista, you must do the following:

  1. Contact Old Mission San Juan Bautista at least six (6) months prior to the desired wedding date.

  2. Schedule an appointment to meet with the Pastor of Mission San Juan Bautista.

  3. Pay $650 stipend (should you cancel your wedding, the stipend is refundable except for $150 that goes to restore the Mission).

You must meet with the Pastor of Mission San Juan Bautista (please call the Parish Office for an appointment [831-623-2127] and pay the $650 stipend to Old Mission San Juan Bautista before your wedding can be written on our calendar thereby confirming the date. Please note that dates may not be held in any way prior to the receipt of the agreement and payment. NO FAXES will be accepted.


Scheduling A Wedding (For Non-Parishioners):

Before a wedding can be scheduled at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, you must do the following:
  1. Contact Old Mission San Juan Bautista at LEAST six (6) months prior to the desired wedding date.

  2. Obtain a "Letter of Permission" from your local pastor:

    1. Along with granting you permission to marry outside your local parish, your parish priest also agrees to prepare you and your fiancée for marriage.

    2. Along with granting you permission to marry outside your local parish, your parish priest also agrees to travel to Old Mission San Juan Bautista to celebrate the ceremony.

  3. Pay the $1000 stipend (beginning January 19, 2006). Should you cancel your wedding, the stipend is refundable except for $250 that goes to restore the Mission.

You must submit the letter of permission or "Required Paperwork" form (see the last page of "Wedding Guidelines" below) and the full stipend to Old Mission San Juan Bautista before your wedding date can be written on our calendar thereby confirming the date.

You are required to come to the Parish Office in person to submit the "Required Paperwork" form or letter of permission, and pay the full stipend. Please call the Parish Office for an appointment (831-623-2127).
NO FAXES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  • PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ALL STIPENDS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

In addition to the above, you must read, understand, and agree to the Wedding Guidelines (you will need Acrobat Reader in order to view this form).

In order for you to have a successful wedding rehearsal and wedding day, the Parish of Old Mission San Juan Bautista provides a wedding hostess. She may be contacted through the Mission Office at 831-623-2127. Her services are provided for both parishioners and non-parishioners alike.
